  4. Summary Chapter 15 and Treatment of psychological Disorders Culture and Psychopathology Historical and cross-cultural perspectives on the definition of "mental illness." Labeling theory argues that diagnosis is a way of stigmatizing individuals that a society considers deviant. This process can be dangerous and damaging to the recipient of the label as it turns them into a “patient.” The Rosenhan study suggests that misdiagnosis is quite plausible. Overtime certain disorders, such as schizophrenia, have become increasingly supported by evidence and others, such as “multiple personality disorder” have not been found to be reliable or valid.

  5. Psychodynamic Perspectives on Mental Illness. According to this framework, there are three basic types of psychological disorders: neuroses personality disorders psychoses Cognitive-Behavioral Perspective cognitive-behavioral model proposes that behavior disorders are essentially learned from prior experience. n a related vein, the cognitive aspect involves the manner in which one processes information from the environment, usually according to trait based interpretations. Evolutionary Perspective example involves simple phobias, where one is fearful of certain objects because it is wise to be avoidant. Summary Ch15 and Treatment of psychological Disorders
