  6. Indonesia • Colonial Power: Dutch • Gained independence in 1949 • Economy and government are unstable • Recently reforming toward a democracy

  7. East Timor • Colonial Power: Dutch/ Indonesia • Gained independence in 1999 • Fighting until 2002 when independence was finally achieved
