Major Initiatives These initiatives are shared/similar among us. • Fundable research proposals using community/academic initiatives • CBPR Training programs, DVD, and web resources • Cultural Competency Research Training • Research Consult Services • Community Outreach Programs, e.g. health fairs, seminars, appreciation days, surveys • Research participant recruitment and retention strategies • Formation of and training for Speakers Bureau • CBPR small grants program • Pilot projects and conferences shaped through focus groups • Community Advisory Boards

These initiatives are shared/similar among us. • Clinical Trials Network (Johns Hopkins) • Knowledge Translation Program (Johns Hopkins) • Education for Community Health (CWRU’s REECH program involves the arts) • Classification system for relevance of research studies to communities and clinicians (Ohio State) • Survey of base-line perceptions and participation in research (U Pitt) • Linking Community Organizations and Multidisciplinary Health Professional Groups (U Pitt) • Consortium to address health disparities (U Penn) • CBPR methods that link researchers, clinicians, trainees, communities, e.g. JH PCHP (new journal)

Outcomes • Synergy created by realizing that we share goals and approaches to reaching them • Greater understanding of working across vertical silos and creating collaborations • Acknowledged need for greater focus and clearer definition of terms when discussing “community engagement” • Strengthened relationships among region’s key investigators and partners
