  9. Positive Conclusions What is going “right” in the Middle School: When Looking at CTBS Student Categories, our “High”, “Middle”, & “Low” Achieving Students are at or above National Average in Most Areas Gains in Spelling & Language Composite Although scores dropped from the previous year, the “Overall Score” is still higher than the score from CTBS 2003

  10. Constructive Conclusions What needs attention in the Primary School: 2nd & 3rd Grade Scores reflect a drop in Language Arts & Word Analysis * Effectiveness of Shurley English Method? Need for a Continuous, Aligned Curriculum * At present teachers are using different instructional series at different levels which makes the curriculum a bit disjointed

  11. Constructive Conclusions What needs attention in the Middle School: 6th Grade Scores Reflect a Significant Drop in Reading and Math * Division of accountability for math? Strengthening the APPLICATION aspect of reading and writing? Need for a Continuous, Aligned Curriculum * Curriculum alignment needed in certain areas because of changes in Core Content. Even in aligned areas, assessment techniques and instruction need evaluation to identify areas of strength & deficiency.

  12. General Plans for Addressing Needs * Increased Practice of Open-Response Writing * Utilize P.D. & Growth Days to Analyze & Design a More Rigorous, Aligned Curriculum * Curriculum Committee / Department Meetings * Re-Structured Scheduling at the Middle School * Implementation of Core Day Wednesdays * Daytime ESS for both W.P.S. & R.G.E.

  13. Resources for Addressing Needs * Implementation of Social Studies Alive * Extensive CTBS Practice / Coaching Books * 2006 Adoption for Reading Materials * Implementation of Web Achiever Program
