  2. PURPOSE: To learn some tips and reading strategies for better comprehension of Non-Fiction text.

  3. MATERIALS: • Your Science Text Book • Any Other Non-Fiction Reading Material

  4. PROCEDURE: • Check the Table of Contents • Preview the main topics and concepts • CHAPTER 1 Matter in Motion • 1. Measuring Motion • 2. What is Force • 3. Friction: A Force That Opposes Motion • 4. Gravity: A Force Of Attraction

  5. Read Titles and Subtitles • Measuring Motion • Observing Motion • Speed Depends on Distance and Time • Velocity: Direction Matters

  6. Look for BOLD words • The rate at which an object moves is its speed. • The speed of an object in a particular direction is its velocity. • Note the relationship between speed and velocity.

  7. Read important information that is placed in boxes. Find an example in your text book.

  8. Read all questions at the end of each section. Self-Check Page 6 • Which of the following are examples of velocity? • 25 m/s forward 3. 55 m/h south • 1,500 km/h 4. all of the above

  9. Look at the photographs, charts or drawings. Read their captions. Find an example in your book. Use proper lab safety equipment

  10. Review Chapter highlights, Chapter review study questions and vocabulary at the end of the chapter. • Go to page 28 through 31
