  1. AIRE activities June 2007- June 2008 • Surface – AMAN / DMAN • TMA – CDG / AURORA • Oceanic – Cruise Climb / Cristal ITP Elizabeth MARTIN European Commission DG TREN 11 June 2008

  2. SURFACE (AMAN) EVP Assess impact of introducing AMAN into ATM in context of : • Human involvement and commitment • Usability • Safety Aim to validate Air/Ground concepts using simulations and shadow-mode trials • Based on ADS-B, ASAS, and Sequencing tools • Tested BARCO Algorithm and replaced BARCO HMI with TTG/TTL advisories (developed during the project) in aircraft label Results used to develop enhancements/recommendations • Confirmed the need for airspace redesign to maximise benefits • Increased the cooperation between en-route and approach and in general, provided a more ordered flow European Commission DG TREN 11 June 2008

  3. SURFACE (DMAN) EMMA 2 European Airport Movement Management by A-SMGCS • Higher A-SMGCS including Routing-Planning, Guidance and Information Management • Holistic integrated air-ground approach. Pilot, tower apron controllers assisted by A-SMGCS requiring adequate HMI • Advanced on-board guidance support to pilots planners and controllers using CPDLC • Results will support international regulation and standardisation European Commission DG TREN 11 June 2008

  4. TMA AURORA European Commission DG TREN 11 June 2008

  5. TMA AURORA Additional burn at low level~ 600 kg Transportation of 600 kg to USA (8h)170 kg Total penalty per flight 770 kg Two flights per day, 365 days per year 365 x 2 x 770 = 562100562 tons additional burn per year1600 tons of CO2 European Commission DG TREN 11 June 2008

  6. TMA CDG Flight Trials 26 May- 30 May 2008 10 Flight Trials (5 days 2 per day) • AF from JFK and BOS to CDG • Tailored Arrivals from TOD to IAF • Remove ATC FL constraints along the STAR Objectives / Preliminary Results • Reduce fuel consumption • A330 approx.100kg per flight • B747 approx. 200kg per flight • Reduce CO2 emissions 19000T/a (for entire fleet) European Commission DG TREN 11 June 2008

  7. OCEANIC FLIGHT TRIAL CRISTAL ITP (In-trail Procedure) March 2008 A330 passenger aircraft (Cruising FL 310) A340 Test aircraft SAS Airbus ISAVIA NATS EUROCONTROL • Enabled by ADS-B and more efficient pilot-controller collaboration • Aircraft performed altitude changes during cruise • Saves fuel and reduces emissions during cruise • Demonstrates a significant step towards more flexible operations (reduced HOR separation) in an oceanic environment • 170-kilogram average fuel saving on a transatlantic flight European Commission DG TREN 11 June 2008

  8. OCEANIC FLIGHT TRIALS Cruise Climb-trans-Atlantic flight demos 26 May- 30 May 2008 8 Flight Trials (4 days 2 per day) Air Europa FAA NAV Portugal • test and validate the benefits for improved oceanic flight trajectories • user-preferred routes • fuel-efficient routes European Commission DG TREN 11 June 2008
