  2. Project Introduction • Design For Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) • Herman Miller • Office furniture company • Overhead storage door • Problems at assembly • Costs are too high • Improved design required

  3. Project Objectives • Eliminate the racking condition at assembly line build & installation • Improve ease of assembly for the operators in the production line • Improve the bracket assembly process to eliminate the dents on the face of the door. • Eliminate excess packaging

  4. Activities • DFMA Research • Analysis of product installation • Tour of Herman Miller Facility • Assembly process • Factory capabilities

  5. Future Activities • Cost analysis • Redesigning of the product • CAD drawings in Pro-E • Possible prototype • Installation Testing • Collaboration with Herman Miller engineers • Implement DFMA concepts
