Preventing Maltreatment with a Community-Based Implementation of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy By: Paul Lanier, Patricia Kohl, Joan Benz, Dawn Swinger, and Brett Drake Literature Review #1 -Purpose of this article was to examine rates of child abuse and neglect reports following a community implementation of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy with evidence that supports and intervention for the prevention of child maltreatment -Also family history of child welfare involvement is a prominent factor in assessing risk for future involvement.

Literature Review #2 The Public Health Approach for Understanding and Preventing Child Maltreatment: A Brief Review of the Literature and a Call to Action By: Theresa Covington -Most major advances in child maltreatment have focused on protecting severely maltreated children and punishing the offenders. -Her article argues that it is time to carefully apply a public health framework to improve our understanding of, and prevent child abuse and neglect. -Her article describes the essentials of a public health approach, discusses how this approach has been applied to improve observation of serious maltreatment injuries and fatalities, the understanding of risk and protective factors, and the long-term consequences of maltreatment. -It also describes how a public health approach is in effect means to prevention.
