  3. Beginning a Neurodiagnostic Career Find a program: • Look for CAAHEP-accredited programs at www.caahep.org • Some programs only include EEG, others are inclusive of sleep, EPs, IOM and/or nerve conductions

Achieving Certifications • Benefits of passing board exams • Verifies competence • Increases job security • 75% receive pay increase or promotion • Insurance reimbursement may start to require technologists to be credentialed • This is the standard at many facilities – a requirement for hiring

  8. How to Prepare? • Look for “Board Prep” courses • Many provide both written and clinical practice • Purchase Practice Tests • ABRET www.abret.org • ASET www.aset.org • Ask for Help • Ask others who have taken boards • Practice on family, friends, associates

  9. Keeping Certifications Current • Find out the requirement for keeping your credential and when it will need to renewed • Request credits to be awarded for any educational event, i.e. in-services, lectures, etc. • Keep track of your credits! • Some may be used for multiple credentials

Opportunities for Continuing Education • Meetings (like this one!) • Usually credits are requested in advance, just fill out the paperwork • Professional Organizations • Online education, seminars, etc. • Medical Journals – many offer quizzes • In-hospital training • Relevance to field may be required • Make sure to document in accordance with the accrediting body
