  4. Enemies “Those who are antagonistic to others; esp. those who seek to injure, overthrow, or confound an opponent; those who show hostility or ill will.” -- Webster’s

  5. Enemies • God loved His enemies

  6. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Rom 5:8, 10

You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.” But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

  9. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even tax-gatherers do the same? Matt 5:43-46

  12. Enemies • God loved His enemies • We should love our enemies, too • Loving the world makes one an enemy with God

  13. You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

  14. Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Jas 4:4, 7-8

  15. Enemies We are grateful we are no longer God’s enemies…our friendship to Him has been reconciled. As His children, we have gathered this morning to worship Him.

  16. Enemies We’re thankful you have come to worship God with us. Have you been reconciled to God? Are you still His enemy?

  17. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf… …be reconciled to God. 2 Cor 5:20
