  2. Our Libraries • James E. Shepard Memorial Library is named for the founder of the university, Dr. James E. Shepard. • Shepard serves as the main academic library and includes the CMC & Music Library. • There are two additional libraries on campus.

  6. The Online Catalog • The NCCU Online Catalog is accessible from the library’s home page. http://web.nccu.edu/shepardlibrary/ • The online catalog also allows you to search the library catalogs at Duke, NCSU, UNC-Chapel Hill, and other UNC System libraries. http://search.trln.org/

  7. How to Search the Catalog Different ways to search the catalog: Examples • Author – Johnson, Mary • Title – Health and Wellness Research • Subject – Health • Keyword – Students and Health Classification Systems: Library of Congress and Superintendent of Documents

  8. How To Find Articles Use indexes to find articles • Printed Indexes – located in the Serials Department. Examples: Business Periodicals Index Index to Black Periodicals • Electronic Databases - accessible through all computers on campus and remotely through the Web VPN server.

  9. Electronic Databases • Shepard Library provides access to over 100 electronic databases in a variety of subject areas. • NC LIVE http://www.nclive.org/index.phtml

NC LIVE (North Carolina Libraries for Virtual Education) NC LIVE provides online access to: • Articles from over 9,000 newspapers, journals, magazines, encyclopedias; access to over 22,000 electronic books; and direct links to state and national agencies. • To access NC LIVE, log on to the library’s home page and click on NC LIVE from any campus location. For remote access call or stop by the Reference Department to obtain a password, or connect to and use the Web VPN.
