  1. Welcome to Rylem Consulting!

  2. What makes a “good” resume?

  3. Resume Formatting • Make sure your resume is: • Powerful • Articulate • Detailed yet concise • Correctly formatted and edited • When writing your resume, ask these questions: • Does it communicate your specific experience & skills? • Will it compel a hiring manager to want to talk to you?

  4. Types of Resumes • Chronological • Functional • Combination of both

  5. Chronological • A chronological resume lists: • Work history (most recent position listed first) • Education, skills, and certifications can be listed before or after your experience. • Include relevant roles (generally the last 10 -15 years of experience is the rule of thumb).

  6. Functional • A functional resume emphasizes skills and abilities and deemphasizes the chronology. • This could be helpful in the following situations: • You are changing careers or focus and you wish to feature skills and accomplishments that weren't central to recent jobs, such as older experience, volunteer experience, or skills developed outside of work. • You have an interruption in your work or your career has recently taken a detour. • You can better customize your resume to the job you are seeking by deemphasizing the chronology.

  7. Combination of both • A combination resume lists your skills and experience first. Your employment history is listed next in reverse chronological order (most recent jobs first). • Using a combination resume allows you to highlight relevant skills to the job you are applying for while providing the chronological work history that employers prefer.

  8. How to break down and describe your skills
