  2. Are You Seeking… • Wealth? Prov 23:5 • Comfort? Lk 12:19-20 • Pleasure? Eccl 2:1-2 • Good job? Eccl 5:18 • Mate? Prov 18:22 • Contentment? 1 Tim 6:6-9 • Knowledge? 2 Peter 3:18 • Salvation? Acts 16:30 Are you seeking the right things?

  3. Jesus Gives Assurance • We are the Seekers and God is the Giver, Jas 1:17 (Ac 14:17) • We will not find if we seek: • Selfishly (Jas 4:1-4) • Double-minded (Jas 1:6-8) • Seeking requires: • Decision, Josh 24:15 • Committed effort, Lk 9:62 • Goal, Col 3:1 Matthew 7:7-8

  4. Seek God • God has made Himself accessible to you, Isa 55:6-7 • Even after your heart has been far from God, Lk 15:17-24; cf. Deut 4:23-29 • Must seek God with your whole heart, Jer 29:10-14 (Matt 22:37) Acts 17:27 Romans 1:20 Psalm 19:1-6

  5. Seek God’s Kingdom • Willing submission to God’s rule of your life, Psa 110:1-3 • Complete surrender, Mark 12: 32-34 • God’s truth, not your wisdom, 1 Cor 1:18-25 • God’s character, not your pride, 1 Jno 2:16 • God’s purposes, not your proposals, Gal 1:6-9 Matthew 6:33

  6. Seek God’s Kingdom • Enter God’s kingdom through obedient faith, Col 1:13-14 • The Christian is a citizen of heaven, Phil 3:20; Rev 1:6, 9 • The church of Christ... the redeemed, Heb 12:22-23 Matthew 6:33

  7. Seek God’s Righteousness • Salvation by faith, Rom 1:16-17; 3:19-26; 5:1 • Surrender false efforts: • The Pharisees, Matt 5:19-20 • Works to merit, Rom 4:1-6 • Saved by faith only, Jas 2:24 • Once saved, always saved, Gal 5:4 • New man: Righteousness and holiness, Eph 4:23-24 Matthew 6:33

  8. Seek… • Wisdom, Prov 8:17 (4:4-5) • If we seek wisdom, God will give it, Prov 2:1-9 (Jas 1:5) • Humility, Zeph 2:1-3 • Only the humble will obtain mercy in the midst of judgment, Acts 17:30-31 Matthew 7:7-8

  9. Seek… • Peace, 1 Peter 3:11 • Lord is peace, Jug 6:23-24 • Prince of peace, Eph 2:14, 17 • Peace with one another, Matt 5:22-25; Rom 12:17-18 • Do not avenge yourself – seek salvation, Rom 10:1 • Give place to God’s justice Matthew 7:7-8

Seek and You will Find • Seeking implies active participation in order to find • “Time to seek the Lord” Hosea 10:12 • Seek and find salvation, mercy, peace and joy by obeying gospel, Acts 2:37-40 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
