  1. Waimea College GATE Research 2011… Saxton Field ‘Does Saxton Field meet the needs of it’s users?’

  2. Who are we? We’re Sean Cavil, Sheldon Mazola, Cambria Doyle and Libby Malthus, and we’re researching Saxton Field- to see what changes need to be made there.

Our Research Questions: • How can we make Saxton field more accessible for its users? • Does Saxton provide suitable shelter for competitors and spectators? • What other facilities can be added to Saxton to meet more of Tasman/Nelsons needs? • Are there enough places to buy food at Saxton? • Does Saxton Field meet the needs of its users?

  4. What we did... • 2 surveys online with Survey Monkey • Surveyed Waimea Intermediate Researched Saxton Field Made Wiki page Interviewed Lloyd Kennedy and Mr Ledingham Went to Saxton Field to view facilities

  5. Results… • Most: Once a week or not often • Least: More then twice a week and not many less than once a month • Most sport: Netball and soccer • Cricket? Refereeing?

  6. Results… Saxton Field Now = Car Parking already at Saxton Field • Need more parking- especially on Saturday morning • At Netball courts and soccer fields • One central parking lot

  7. Results… Is there enough shelter from wind/rain? • Need more shelter • Soccer fields need shelter for gear and spectators • Netball- Cover for rain for spectators and gear

  8. Results… No/ I would No/ I might Unsure Satisfied Don’t buy • Need more: netball courts (upgrade), soccer fields, softball, athletics • More little shops to buy food • More catering places • Food stands and coffee stalls

  9. Results… • Need more toilets • They’re good quality • Need more toilets around soccer fields

  10. What new sports would you like to see played at Saxton Field? Common sports: • Swimming • Rugby • Paintball • Tennis

  12. Our Social Action • Presented our results from surveys to TDC council. • Sent submission to make a change to Saxton to the councils.

  13. Possible Changes to the Future of Saxton • Water fountains • Shelter for gear and for spectators by soccer and Netball/netball warm-up area • More parking spaces • Food kiosk

  14. Conclusion • Saxton Field is a great place but there are small changes we think need to be made. • Water fountains • Shelter • Parking • Food Kiosk • We think overall our research has been worth it because we have made a difference!
