  1. Which Clothing Pieces You Should and Shouldn't Dry Clean Clothing is man’s basic need—our attire changes according to season and occasion. Summer brings our cotton clothes out of our wardrobe, while winter lets out a range of leather jackets to snug cashmere sweaters. As far as parties and weddings are concerned, they unwrap the eclectic collection of fabrics ranging from silk, chiffon, crepe to brocade and velvet. Every piece of fabric demands maintenance, some more than others. In the case of regular everyday clothing made of cotton, denim, cotton blends, artificial silk, or other synthetic fibers, we can wash them with regular clothes detergent. Certain varieties of fabrics like cotton silk, or clothes with light embroidery, lace, or sequin work can be hand washed separately with soft washing soap or liquid. Do not spin the piece as it may ruin the fabric or work on it. Delicate items like lingerie, scarves, cloth belts, ties, and pocket squares can be placed in a special laundry bag meant for the machine and washed on a gentle cycle. This makes sure certain items with some work on them, or the items like padded bras and blouses with laces remain intact. At these times, automated laundry systems or laundry drying racks come handy, where we can hang the clothes for drying with customized heat or fan drying settings. Special wire racks that are an added feature can help place small pieces like heavy work blouses, purses, or caps. But as far as pure fabrics like silk, brocade, velvet, wool, and leather are concerned, these have to be hung dry after every use, to eliminate any perspiration odor. But after wearing them a few times, they need to be sent to dry cleaners to maintain the fabric’s sheen, texture, and cleanliness. Some clothing items and accessories have lots of embroideries, lacework, sequins, and mirror work. It needs professional cleaners so that the work and the colors remain intact, and the stuff looks all-new for a long time. Dry cleaning involves cleaning with a chemical solvent instead of water. Some fabrics cannot be dry cleaned like the fabrics consisting of plastic, PVC, or polyurethane. The chemical used in dry cleaning deteriorates such kinds of material. Clothing tags also give a fair idea of what fabric your clothing piece is made of, how to handle that fabric, and whether it needs dry cleaning, hand wash, or machine wash. They also inform what temperature water is required for the wash and other do’s and don’ts regarding the care for the same. Human beings tend to get attached to material things, and clothing ranks on top. We grow fond of specific dresses. Now you have a fair idea of what clothing pieces you should and shouldn’t send for dry cleaning.
