  1. Willkommen! Deutsch A1, A2, B1,& B2 Standard 1: Students will communicate in a 2nd language Standard 2: Students will develop cross cultural understanding

  2. Supplies needed for German: • 25 page protectors each year. (I will provide the extra above and beyond the first.) • 1 ½ inch inch binder • pens (or pencils) for the year

  3. Class Dojo Citizenship Grade Points are added and deducted – 100 Point assignment • Grades will be determined using Classdojo. Your child received sign up information in class on the first day. Parents should use the join code in the student packet.

  4. GRADING POLICY Grades will be determined by averaging the following: • Tests + Quizzes 50% • Classwork/Projects/Homework/ Participation/Projects 50% Late HW receives only partial credit.

  5. A1 Students will: • Take a midterm exam in January 2018. • Take the speaking portion of the final exam from April through June. • Take the listening, reading, and writing portions of the final exam during the first week of June. • Keep all colored notesheets from 7th Grade for 8th Grade

  6. A2 Students will: • Take the speaking portion of the final exam from April through June • 3 conversations with the teacher with 5 interactions each. • Each utterance must be a complete thought (sentence), not a yes/no response • Each utterance must be an original comment, not a repeat of what the teacher said. • 1 = socializing and expressing opinions • 2 = providing and obtaining information • 3 = persuasion • Take the listening, reading, and writing portions of their final exam in June. • Receive high school credit for passing the exam and the course. • Fulfill the NYS graduation requirement in World Languages for passing the exam. • Keep their colored note sheets for level B1

B1 Students will: • Take the speaking portion of the final exam from April through June • Take the listening, reading, and writing portions of their final exam in June. • Receive high school credit for passing the course. • Sign up for B2 so they can earn a Regents Diploma with Avanced Designation – NYS’s highest diploma • Keep their colored note sheets for level B2

B2 Students will: • Take the speaking portion of the final exam from April through June • 3-4 conversations with the teacher with 6 utterances each. • Each utterance must have 2 parts (past tense, conjunctions, modal verbs, or 2 sentences) • Each utterance must be an original comment, not a repeat of what the teacher said. • Take the listening, reading, and writing portions of their final exam in June. • Receive high school credit for passing the exam and the course. • Fulfill the NYS graduation requirement for a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation for passing the exam and the course. • Keep their colored note sheets for level C1 • Be eligible for induction into the National German Honor Society. Honor cords will be given to those students to wear at graduation. Requirements include having a 90% or better average in German and at least an 85% average overall among all courses. • Be eligible for transferrable college credit from NCCC by continuing study in level C1 & C2. • Be eligible to participate in the IB program.

  9. Students should 1. Review vocabulary from colored notesheets at least 10 -15 minutes a night.2. Use notesheets to write the homework3. Bring binder with notesheets and agenda to class every day4. Check their grades online often.5. Contact me if there are any questions or problems. 6. Turn in corrected and/or revised work for credit. 7. Make up any missing assignments for credit.

Advanced Designation Diplomas • Students must pass the comprehesive, summative exam at the end of 8th grade to fulfill basic NYS requirements. • Students go on to take 2 units of World Language at the high school (levels B1 and B2) during the freshman and sophomore years. • Students pass the exam at the end of the B2 course for an Advanced Designation Diploma.

  11. IB Program and/or college credit • Classes exist at both high schools to allow students to complete the requirements for the IB Program and/or earn college credit for foreign language. Some students may earn enough to be exempted from the basic language requirement at their college or university.
