  1. The penny is the only American coin that has a different color. • A penny is copper colored and is worth one cent. • Five pennies make five cents, ten pennies make ten cents, and twenty five pennies make twenty five cents. • One hundred pennies make one dollar.

  2. Question Count by 2’s. • Can you count how many pennies are in the box? • How much money are these pennies worth all together? • 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14. • That’s right, there are 14 cents worth of pennies.

  3. A nickel is worth five cents. It takes five pennies to equal a nickel. .

  4. Count how much change we have in nickels. • 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and 75. • There is a total of 75 cents worth of nickels. • Count by 5’s.

  6. The name of this coin is a dime. It is the smallest coin. This coin has rough ridges around the outside. The dime is worth ten cents. Ten dimes make a dollar.

  7. Count with me to see how much money we have in dimes. • 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50. • There are 50 cents worth of dimes. • Let’s count b 10’s.

  8. This coin is the largest American coin. This coin Is called a quarter and is worth twenty five cents. This coin has rough ridges around it’s side. Four quarters make a dollar.

  9. Can you count how much money we have in quarters? • 25, 50 and 75.rters to • There are 75 cents worth in quarters. • 75 cents, if counted by 5’s would be 15. This means that it takes 15 nickels to make 75 cents and 3 quarters to make 75 cents. • Lest’s count by 25. If that’s too hard we can count by 5’s.

  13. How much money do we have in 5 dollar bills? • We can count by 5’s. • It’s like counting nickels. • Yes! There are twenty dollars in five dollar bills.

  14. This is what a ten dollar bill looks like. It takes ten one dollar bills to make ten dollars. Two ten dollar bills makes twenty dollars. Three ten dollars makes Thirty dollars.

  15. How much money is there in 10 dollar bills? • You can count by 10’s. • We also counted by 10’s when we counted dimes. • Yes! There are 60 dollars in 10 dollar bills.

  16. This is what a twenty dollar bill looks like. • It takes twenty one dollar bills to amount to twenty dollars. • Two twenty dollar bills make forty dollars. • Three twenty dollar bills make sixty dollars.

  17. How much money is there in 20 dollar bills? • Count carefully and slowly. It may be a little hard. • Yes! There are 60 dollars in 20 dollar bills. • Three twenty dollar bills make sixty dollars. • Let’s count by 20’s.

  18. This is a fifty dollar bill. • It takes fifty one dollar bills to amount fifty dollars. • Ten five dollar bills amount to fifty dollars. • Five ten dollar bills amount to fifty dollars. • Two fifty dollar bills amount to one hundred dollars.

  20. This is a one hundred dollar bill. • It is the largest American bill and is worth one hundred one dollar bills. • Twenty five dollar bills. • Ten, ten dollar bills. • Five twenty dollar bills. • Two fifty dollar bills.

As you can see, you can count using change and different bills. • The only thing we need to remember is to count by 1’s, 5’s, 10’s 20’s, 25’s, 50’s and 100’s. • We will not count to one hundreds for this activity. • Our job is to count to one hundred. • Your task is to pretend that there is a special toy, game, or thing you want to buy. • I will then put together six groups that will choose what toy, or thing to buy. • Your job is to help me make a poster of how much money you need to buy that object on a Power Point slide. • We will pretend that you have used money from you piggy bank, or money that you have gotten from our parents to count how much money you have, or need to buy what you want. • The object, money and how much money you have, or need will all be shown on the poster.

  22. I will Split you up into groups of six. That way we will only have four groups presenting. • My job is to use the computer to find pictures of what you want to buy as a group and tell you how much money I will give you. • The group will split up and each team member will count part of the team’s money. • If you have any questions, or need scratch paper to add your money please let me know when I come around to check. • When we finish our group project we will present them to the class in a Power Point Presentation. • I will put the presentation together on the computer, but you will have to tell me what to put on your slides, what colors you want to use for the background and what color letters you want to use. • When we finish the project, I will then show the class what you all came up with.
