      • Class 1 – done by employer when employed & on PAYE

    • MDU – Locum cover worked out based on number of sessions

    • Can get cover in blocks

    • E.g. 1 session per week = 52 sessions

    • Use these all in one go or spread out through year

    • Can add in ‘fixed’ sessions i.e 4 session regular until date X


    Pay

    • Negotiable

    • Be fair to yourself and to the practice

    • £80 per hour

    • £225 per session

    • £450 per full day

    • £25 per visit – when to type it up?

    • Above includes doing own referrals/paper work

    • Leave a ‘tidy desk’

    • Get an accountant – helps with tax return and claiming back tax free benefits

      • Proportion of car/computer/stationery etc

  • If doing maternity locum check policy re annual leave / study leave

  • If employed for more than 6 months by a practice, you are classed as ‘salaried’ for purposes of pension and other rights

  • PDP / Appraisal – keep log of this as you go
