  1. First OAuth 2.0 and SAML identity federation platform to be shown by Gluu Gluu will demo today for the first time its consolidated SAML and OAuth2 federation interface. The bi-monthly Gluu EDU webinar demonstrates how universities are using SAML to integrate cloud applications and to connect to the websites available using the in Common federation. The combined SAML 2.0/ OAuth2 interface now enables institutions to prepare for the arrival of OpenID Connect and UMA, two important new profiles of 2 factor auth that better support cloud, mobile and social applications. “We’ve been working hard to consolidate our SAML and OpenID Connect interfaces, and are excited to offer a comprehensive user interface that supports current and next-gen identity federation standards for organizational trust management,” said Gluu CEO Mike Schwartz. “In particular, there is quite a bit of overlap between SAML and OpenID Connect, especially the need to share strong authentication and map identity information from existing sources, like an organization’s LDAP or Active Directory.” The goal of the recurring Gluu EDU webinar, hosted every other Friday at 2:00pm EST, is to educate university IT staff on the benefits of using Gluu’s cloud identity service to remove much of the complexity associated with launching and managing an organizational SAML IdP using Shibboleth software.

  2. In addition to the OpenID Connect profile of OAuth2, Gluu also implements the User Managed Access, or UMA standard. The targeted use case is to enable organizations to restrict access to certain enterprise API’s, while leveraging OpenID Connect to define identity authentication, discovery and attribute release policies. According to Maciej Machulak, Vice-Chair of the User-Managed Access Work Group, “Gluu’s early implementation of UMA shows how the use of OAuth2 is gaining adoption and solving important new uses cases for authorization and access control for APIs.” Other standards supported by Gluu include SCIM and RADIUS. Additionally, the Gluu interface supports customizable two-factor authentication that allows an organization to leverage strong authentication in their federation service. About Gluu: Gluu (gluu.org) is an Austin, TX startup that provides open source and on demand cloud identity and trust management. Gluu leverages standards such as OpenID Connect, SAML 2.0, and SCIM to make achieving single sign-on (SSO) secure and fast. Deployed quickly on public and private cloud servers, Gluu’s cloud identity platform helps organizations address the installation and operational issues of an organizational identity provider at a predictable annual cost.
