  4. There are about 1,200 islands. located in the Indian Ocean

  5. The biggest island is 4.5 miles long and only 6 feet above sea level.

  6. The Capital City is Male where 80,000 people live. Male is one of the most populated cities in the world.

  7. The religion is 100% Islam (Sunni Muslim). It is illegal to practice any other religion in the public.

  8. Woman play a major role in society. The Muslim weekend is as follows: Friday & Saturday

  9. Economy $ The Maldives is heavily based on the government-controlled fishing industry. The sale of dried fish in Sri Lanka brings most of its money in. Tourism brings in most of the other money.

  10. The annual number of tourist arrivals is greater than the total population of the Maldives which is 400,000.
