Background, Early Life & Education • Was born on October 23, 1942 in Littlehampton, England • A very rebellious child • She was third of four children • Parents were mother, Gilda Perella and father Donny Perella, ran first and only American styled diner in their town • Went to St. Amy's Convent then Maude Allen Secondary Modern • Parents were divorced when she was 8 years old, then found out her real father was her “Uncle Henry” • Trained as a teacher at Bath College of Higher Education (renamed: Bath Spa University) • Married Gordon Roddick in 1970 • As a couple they opened a restaurant and hotel and had two daughters- Sam and Justine • In 2004, she was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis due to long-standing hepatitis C • Died September 10, 2007 at the age of 64. Her cause of death was, Cerebral Hemorrhage

About “The Body Shop” • Found in Brighton, 1976 • Has 2,400 shops in 61 countries • At first sold only 15 products, now more than 300 products • By 1991, the shop had 700 branches and Roddick was awarded the 1991 World Vision Award for Development Initiative Award • By 2004, the Body Shop had 1,980 stores. • voted the second most trusted brand in the United Kingdom, and 28th top brand in the world

Early Career Decisions & How They Have Impacted Success • Children On The Edge (COTE), created in a reaction to her visit to the Romanian orphanages • Littlehampton Community School was provided with its funds by Roddick, in a result of her donation, a building was built in her honor and is named “The Roddick Enterprise Centre” • The Littlehampton College hosts "Roddick Days "which allows students to give back to their community • Littlehampton College is planning on creating an academy due to Anitas death

Why Are They important • Was known for her campaigning work on environmental issues • Found Children On The Edge, a charitable organization dedicated to working on behalf of marginalized and vulnerable children who were usually victims of war • She wrote Take It Personally, which encourages equality and an end to the exploitation of workers and children in under developed countries • Donated all £51m of her fortune to charity
