  2. Introduction • What is ? • Accessing • Changing your password • Updating your profile • Accessing your course • Using the Blogs • The Common Room • News Forums

  3. What is ? • Moodle is an acronym for: Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment • This sounds complicated but it just means online classroom! • Moodle is very easy to use and is aimed to be a dynamic learning environment, supporting you every step of the way • You can access resources associated with your course • Chat with other students, ask questions have fun!

  4. Accessing • When you registered for your course, you should have been sent: • Your unique username and password • A Word document detailing how to access our Moodle • If not please email alison@anneemersonsmith.co.uk • Now all you need is access to the internet! • Our Moodle can be accessed at: http://grefintec-anneemersonsmith.moodlehub.com

  5. Meet New Candidate PAul • Paul has recently enrolled on the course SVQ3 Children’s Care Learning and Development • Lets follow his journey as he accesses Moodle for the first time

  6. Changing your password • It is important that the Moodle is kept secure • Please change your password as soon as you can • A good website to check out the strength of your new password is: http://howsecureismypassword.net/ • It’s a simple process and this short film clip lets you see how it’s done

  7. Updating your profile • If you are familiar with social networking sites such as Facebook you will be familiar with profiles • It is a place where you can upload information about yourself from where you work, to your interests • You can also upload a photo and this is great when you might only meet your classmates every few weeks • You can share as much or as little information as you like, but please write something as we want to get to know you!

  8. Accessing Your Course • There will be a section on the Moodle for each course that you are registered for • These will be updated regularly to include resources associated with workshops that have taken place • It will also have additional learning resources which will support your studies • There is also a ‘Blog’ which you can use to chat with other candidates on your course • Plus there is a News Forum where additional course information will be posted by your assessors

  9. The Common Room • Many educational institutions have common rooms. • They are a shared place for students to meet and access additional resources • Our Moodle Common Room is no different, it just happens to be online! • Some of the resources are required reading so it is just as important to access the Common Room as it is your course Moodle

  10. Using the Blogs • Blogs are useful places for receiving information, discussing topics with peers and for asking questions relating to your course. • There is a ‘Blog’ associated with each course and this can be accessed by any candidate or assessor enrolled on that course • There is also a ‘Blog’ in the Common Room and this can be accessed by ALL candidates and assessors • If you do have a question or query about something relating to your course please post it on the forums. It is more than likely that more than just you would benefit from the answer! • Watch how Paul got on accessing his course and Blogs

  11. Forum & Blog Etiquette • As with any form of communication, written, spoken or otherwise, it is important that you show respect to those you are conversing with. • Also remember that it is more difficult to 'take something back' in written communication. Contributions are in the public domain and 'committed to posterity'. • Moodle posts will not be made available outside the portal however. So you should not flinch from being honest, controversial and passionate, but keep your comments on topic and avoid making personal remarks.
