  1. The TOEIC exam Overview

  2. What is the TOEIC exam? TOEIC stands for Test of English for International Communication  (TOEIC). It is considered a way of testing a non-native speaker’s ability to use English in the workplace.

  3. Importance of TEOIC The TOEIC is therefore very important due to its ability to measure a non native speaker’s ability to use English. If you apply for a job in an international company in Thailand, the chances are that you will need to get a certain score on the TOEIC exam in order to qualify for the job.

  4. Possible score The TOEIC exam is scored out of 990. • orange (10–215) • brown (220–465) • green (470–725) • blue (730–850) • gold (855–990)

  5. Target score? The necessary score in a TOEIC exam will depend on the company you are applying for. In Thailand, the following might represent target TOEIC scores: • 600 -700 + Airlines. (The better the airline, the higher the score is likely to be). 600 is a fairly standard score for jobs • 500 +Basic international companies. Recently taken from jobstreet.com: • NITTO DENKO CORPORATION- Chon BuriHuman Resource planning and management. HR Assistant Manager in Thailand(Nitto Matex Thailand). TOEIC 500. • PTTEP Services Co., Ltd. Receptionist -Bangkok. Receptionist. TOEIC 500.

  6. How you get the score There are different types of TOEIC test but the main one you may see in Thailand is the TOEIC Listening and Reading test. Each part is worth 495 points (2x495=990), therefore the listening part is worth half of your score.

  7. Focus of course This course will therefore focus on the TOEIC Listening test to help students who may take a TOEIC test when applying for jobs after university. PS If you want to be Professor G’s toilet cleaner after university……… TOEIC SCORE 950+ MINIMUM
