How You Will Learn • 50% theory and 50% clinical based • Use of the Phantom Head Skills Laboratory • Use of the Dental Treatment Clinics and Dental Suites as well as placements • Lectures, seminars, facilitated debates, peer and group work, RIT & problem solving sessions • E-learning including lots of Self directed learning

  17. How You Will Be Assessed • Task specific exams • Clinical competencies (Cert HE) • Case Presentations (BSc) • Essays, assignments, presentations &Viva voce • In the BSc there are practical clinical assessments which must be passed in order to proceed through to the next year.

  18. Funding • No course fees • NHS Bursary available • Student finance option – only pay back once you have earned above £21,000 (SLC)

  20. What makes our courses different? • Cert HE is more academic than NVQ • Research is fundamental • Leadership & Management • Development of the evidence-based, problem-solving, reflective practitioner

  21. Entry Criteria for Dental Nursing • 4 GCSE’s (Maths, English, Science) or equivalent • 80 UCAS Tarif points(eg 1 A level or equivalent) • Evidence of academic study within the last 5 years • Eligibility to receive an NHS Bursary

Entry Criteria for Dental Therapy • Dental Nurse Qualification (Optional) • 5 GCSE’s (Maths, English, Science) or equivalent • 240 UCAS tariff points from 2-3 A levels (1 must be Science based preferably biology ) or equivalent • Evidence of academic study within the last 5 years • Eligibility to receive an NHS Bursary

  23. Requirements for Applicants • Evidence of work shadowing • Knowledge of the profession you are entering into • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Excellent manual dexterity skills
