  2. Mr. Gough • Hello, I am Deaf born. Deaf people in America uses ASL as their mother language. • I went to California School for the Deaf in Fremont and graduated there. • I love scuba diving and outdoor activities. • I’m involved with political activities too.

  3. Mr. Gough • The interpreter is with him now, she interpret what Mr. Gough says. She will be here for 2 days. • How to communicate? Write forth and back or sign language

  5. Syllabus • Syllabus handouts • Will pass out when the class is settled down.

  6. Beware • American Sign Language is one of toughest to learn in foreign languages. There are complex structure and different signs for one vocabulary. • However, teacher will help and guide you go to be proficient signer!

  7. Expectations • Study and practice any assignment that teacher gives you before next class. • We will have frequent quizzes. • Attend to the events (will discuss about that later).

  8. Golden list • (10/3) It means 10 minutes lecture then 3 minutes chitchat related to recent discussion • Notebook or powerpoint outline with pencil ready at the bell. • At specific tray: assignment, outline, and homework/project… • If you see outline tray has paper, please pick up before you have a seat at start of the class.

  9. Expectations: Continued • Teacher: Blunt and honest • NO VOICE in the class or you will hurt your grades • ASL is for who wants to learn and communicate with Deaf people.

  10. Expectations: Continued • Each class will be fun with many activities… • Be assertive • Always practice signs BEFORE next class to keep up with fast pace course.

  11. Attendance • Attend to every class and be on time! • Always come to class prepared and be ready to learn new contents. • BE PREPARED all the time for anything!
