  7. 7 - 29 June 2008 Special Units • Crowd Control Units • deployment of approx. 2000 officers • Operational Units • especially equipped, can be flexibly deployed anywhere in Austria • approx. 2000 officers • show up in case of massive incidents • 'Spotters' • use of spotters has proven effective in Austria • number will be increased to 150 during the EURO 2008

  8. 7 - 29 June 2008 Cooperation with the Army • Sectors of assistance by the Austrian Federal Army: • Providing accommodation and board for Austrian and foreign law enforcement officers • Airspace surveillance • Civil Defence (disaster protection)

  9. 7 - 29 June 2008 Border • Similar to the German model during the WC 2006 • temporary and situation-dependent border controls • As response to pertinent threat assessment • possible control shortly before and/or after the games at certain border sectors

  10. 7 - 29 June 2008 Traffic/Transport • Support of the 'Traffic Platform' in the Federal Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure by the Ministry of the Interior • Measures under planning: • Creation of a combi ticket • Creation of a routing system • Traffic information (in cooperation with ORF-Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) • Driver-guide service (only for teams, referees, and the UEFA-president)

  19. 7 - 29 June 2008 Simulational and Operational Phase • Simulation phase: 30 May to 30 Nov. 2007 • Practising phase of the MI • Rehearsal of the entire operational and logistic deployment • Cooperation at all security levels • Cooperation with UEFA, ÖFB, private security companies, other involved ministries, and institutions • comprises ÖFB international matches, starting with Austria vs. Scotland on 30 May 2007 • Experiences are constantly evaluated and reviewed • Operational phase: as of 1 May 2008

Public Viewing – Recommendations (1) 7 - 29 June 2008 • Enclosing the venues • Limiting the numbers of viewers depending on the local circumstances • Imposing closing times • Access control by qualified stewards • Use of "wave breakers", if more than 10,000 viewers • Video surveillance, if necessary • Adequate number of medical staff • Ban on pyrotechnical items
