  6. What will I be doing this year? Functions and Quadratics Number sense Algebra statistics Equations/ inequalities

  7. How will I be graded? Tests (50%), Quizzes(30%), Classwork(15%) and Homework(5%)

  8. What are the rules in this classroom? Be respectful. Be prepared. Be on time.

  11. Guideline #1 Be in your assigned seat and working on the “do now” when the tardy bell rings.

  12. Guideline #2 Bring ALL books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave.

  13. Guideline #3 Follow directions the first time they are given.

  14. Guideline #4 Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity.

  15. Guideline #5 Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the FMS School handbook.

  18. Following Guidelines will result in: • Verbal Acknowledgement • A Stress free learning environment • A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere

  19. Not Following Guidelines will result in: • 1st • Warning and documentation • 2nd • Action Plan , Parental Contact, and 30 minute after school detention 3rd • Disciplinary Referral

  20. Severe Clause • Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent out IMMEDIATELY.

  21. Classroom Procedures All classroom procedures will be explained and practiced.

  22. Entering the room • Please enter quietly • Have a seat • Take out your materials • Review the agenda • Begin “do now”

  23. If you are tardy: • Enter quietly • Excused: Show me late pass on your way to your desk. • Unexcused: Sign late slip/ detention sheet list on top of file cabinet. • Have a seat and take out your materials

  24. Getting your attention I will: • Stand in front of the class • Raise my hand • Wait for everyone to be quiet • Begin speaking

  25. After an excused absence • Go to the class folder • Take your assignments; classwork and/or homework • No make-up work for unexcused absences

  26. Student Responsibility CardThis is for students who do not have the assigned homework • Fill it out • Sign and date it • Turn it in with the homework papers

  28. Finish Classwork Early • Ask me if you can help someone • Start your homework • Check your work with me. • Make a word wall word “What do I do next?”

  29. Leaving early? • Please let me know as you enter the classroom. • Quietly raise your hand to get my attention • Pack your materials and leave at the scheduled time • If it is an emergency, quickly get my attention and Iwill assist you.

  30. Turning in papers • Pile the papers for the group on one desk. • If/When you receive a paper, place yours on top and continue passing the stack to your left • Iwill come by and collect all stacks

  31. Need the bathroom? • If you absolutely must use the bathroom, raise your hand with 2 fingers crossed. Have your agenda filled out and ready for me to sign. • If the closest bathroom is not open, please tell me and then we will send you to another location.

  32. Classroom Discussions • PLEASE participate • Iwantto hear what you have to say • Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion • If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

  33. Moving around the room • You must ask permission • Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency

  34. Class Dismissal • The teacher dismisses you, not the bell • Do not start packing up prior to the bell • Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with: “Have a niceday”

  35. “Special” ProceduresThese will be introduced on an “as needed” basis • Special guests • Progress Reports • Working Cooperatively • Fire Drill • Intercom Announcements • Assemblies • Substitute Teacher

A few facts about this course… • Uses knowledge that students have acquired in the advanced 7th grade course. • Students learn the difference between linear and non-linear functions. • Students use proper function notation. • Students differentiate between equations and inequalities. • Students learn quadratic and exponential functions.
