  2. Dependency on computer is increasing with time, not just for work but also for fun. Where we have moved from notepads to Google docs, our social gathering is also converted into group chats. And, all this is leading to increased usage of computers. • We can’t stop working on computers, but what we can do is taking precautions while using them. • Here are few steps we can take to enhance our work and visual experience.

  3. Sit ProperlySitting at a computer in a wrong posture for long periods of time can lead to back pain, neck pain, knee pains etc. It is therefore important to sit as shown in the figure.

  4. Wearing Computer GlassesComputer glasses eliminate glare and radiations coming from computers and thereby enhances the visual experience. • Distance between your monitor and your eyesNever sit too far from the system or too close to the system, always maintain an appropriate distance of 18-28 inches. • Blink Several Times"Remind yourself to blink." Screens have a way of making you forget to do that.

  5. Well lit up work areaWherever you work, be it office or home, make sure your working area is properly lit. Too much light will cause reflection and too little light will lead to strain on the eyes.

  6. No same posture for more than 30 minutesChange your body position frequently while maintaining good posture. A static posture for a long period of time will lead to fatigue and aches. • BreaksAlways take breaks at proper intervals, drink a glass of water or walk few meters within your work area to stretch your body. These few minute breaks will allow your eyes and body muscles to relax.

  7. A study earlier this year from the American Academy of Optometry found that working for just two hours on a computer/laptop caused a significant increase in eye pain and vision problems. We can’t avoid working on computers, but its effect on the eyes can be avoided by taking right precautions. Make these precautions a must to ensure a stress free living.
