Transborder cooperation • The Prešov Region is predestined to transbordercooperationfor it’s geographicalposition • The Prešov Region borders Poland to the north and Ukraine to the east • The most intensive transborder cooperationis with the colleagues from Poland • Cooperation of transborder areas on the Slovak–Polandborder is consistent with an inter-governmentagreement closedin 1995 between the Governments of Slovak Republicand Poland

  7. In year 1999 the Prešov Regionbecame the member of an interregional society - Carpathian Euroregionwhich consists of the part of Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania

Transborder cooperation • Cooperation on the statistical field started in 1993 • Statistical cooperation from it´s beginning consisted of mutualintroducing meetings, both-side consultationsand change of statistical materials • The result of these consultations in 1994 wasthe first Slovak-Poland statistical publication:“Selected statistical data in the year 1992” • After successful edition of the first common publicationthe contacts have became more intensive • Today the cooperation includes not only invitationsto an international statistical seminars and conferences,butalso social and sports events

First edition of „Statistical Bulletin – Podkarpackie Voivodship, Prešov Region and Košice Region“ • The purpose of this publication is to compare social and economic potencial of neighbouring areas – Podkarpackie Voivodship and East Slovakia • The publication highlights information concerning, among other things, demographic situation, enviromental protection, labour market, entities of the national economy, gross domestic product, agriculture and tourism. • Time period covers the yers 2005 – 2006 • Making comparisons is facilitated by indicators presented in the tabular part as well as by maps and graphs • Data are provided with explanations which can be found in the general notes given at the beginning of the book and before each thematic chapter LAST CD – ROM ONLY

The highest honour of the Central Statistical Office in Poland was awarded to Mr. Ján Cuper • for his personal addition in development of cooperation between Statistical Officies in Poland and SO in The Slovak Republic • as well as for considerable share in development of transborder cooperation in the Carpathian Euroregion.
