  2. Chapter 14 • Holden thinks back on the times he didn’t let Allie come with him to the pond (He regrets it) • He begins to talk out loud to Allie

  3. Chapter 14 • Holden is confronted by Maurice and Sunny • Holden gives them a hard time and is roughed up • What does Holden pretend has happened to him?

  4. Chapter 15 • Holden makes a date with Sally Hayes • Doesn’t really like her phoniness, but she is too good looking • Sally uses the word “grand”

  5. Chapter 15 • Holden’s parents • Father = wealthy, lawyer who invests in the theater • Mother = a worrier

  6. Chapter 15 • Holden meets two nuns at the diner • How does Holden see religion? • Believes in Jesus, but not the disciples • How does Holden react or feel about the two nuns? • They are too nice and are too like regular people (i.e. Romeo and Juliet)

  7. Chapter 15 • Allusions • Beowulf and Grendel • Epics with epic heroes • Think of our story as an epic and Holden as our epic her

  8. Chapter 16 • Holden goes for a walk and wants to buy “Little Shirley Beans,” a CD for his sister • Song meant for a child, but not cute at all

  9. Chapter 16 • “If a body catch a body, coming through the rye” • The little boy singing this song, walking with his family, cheers up Holden • Why? • Childhood

  10. Chapter 16 • “I Know my Love” • The Lunt’s Show • Holden gets the tickets and then tries to find Phoebe

  11. Chapter 16 • A girl tells him she was at the Museum of Natural History • What is the purpose/function of the Museum? • Read from page 119 on

  12. Chapter 17 • Sally and Holden go to the show, followed by ice skating at Rockefeller Center • After they are done skating Holden starts yelling and screaming about phonies • Holden wants to run away with Sally • Holden cannot find a balance between his two worlds, he just wants to get away

  13. Chapter 18 • Holden calls Jane, but no one is home • He thinks about the time Jane took a boy, who Holden found arrogant, to a dance • Holden believes that is what all girls say

  14. Chapter 18 • Holden then calls Carl Luce from the Whooton School, they will meet at the Wicker Bar • Holden then goes to see the Rockettes • He finds them phony but likes the kettle drummer • Why?
