  1. Journal Entry #13 Price is Right!! How much does a child cost? Age 0-18

  2. Teen Pregnancy: • Faulty Thinking-a thought process in which a person ignores or denies facts or believes false information. It can lead to actions that cause you and others harm

  3. Faulty Thinking examples: • “I can have a baby now, my mother had a baby when she was a teen and she managed it OK” (only 70% of teens who have babies finish high school) • “I will be the center of attention if I have a baby” (Very little, if any social life) • “He won’t leave me if I have his baby.” (Over 25% have never lived with the babies father) • “I (she) won’t get pregnant if we have sex” (3/10 females become pregnant before age 20) • “I can drink alcohol and still stay in control of my decisions about sex” (Really?!) • “It’s up to her to set the limits, after all boys will be boys” (Takes two to make a baby)

  4. Risks associated with being a baby born to teen parents: 1. Nutrition-female’s body is still growing, most don’t have adequate and balanced nutrition, even if you start once you find out your pregnant it is too late, the baby has already been nourished for six to eight weeks. 2. Low birth weight – weight that is less then 5.5 pounds, more likely to have physical and mental problems, result of no prenatal care

  5. Risks associated with being a baby born to teen parents: 3. Hereditary material – from father, their habits affect baby because it is in the sperm, should avoid substances for at least 3 months before conception 4. Parents with inadequate parenting skills – it is a 24 hour job, firm value system, discipline system is needed to raise a child
