The Black Death Mongols carried the infected fleas and rats into China From China the disease traveled on trade routes from Asia to Europe In 1347, merchant ships arrived in Italy carrying the bubonic plague on fleas and rats From Italy it followed trade routes throughout Europe Disease killed millions of people – about 1/3 the population of Europe
