  1. Summary of Activities and Future Plans Ernesto Gutierrez-Miravete DoES http://www.ewp.rpi.edu/~ernesto/CCAT

  2. Overview of Activities • Evaluation/Validation of Machining/Manufacturing Modeling and Simulation Software • Machining/Manufacturing Course/Curriculum and Human Resource Development • Attendance to Machining/Manufacturing Meetings, Industrial Exhibits, Conferences and Workshops • Presentations, Publications and Reports

  3. Evaluation/Validation of Machining/Manufacturing Modeling and Simulation Software ThirdWave Systems AdvantEdge and Production Module 3D Altintas’ (MAL-UBC) CutPro CNC Simulator Isakov’s Metal Cutting Calculator Delphi’s MBMR Malkin’s GrindSim and CDCFG ESI’s PAM-RTM

  4. AdvantEdge Validation Study

  5. Production Module-UBC code Study

  6. Machining/Manufacturing Course/Curriculum and Human Resource Development • New Graduate Courses • Modeling and Analysis of Machining Systems • Friction and Wear of Materials • Incorporation of Manufacturing/Modeling and Simulation examples in existing Courses • Nine students (mostly graduate) developed abilities to effectively use machining modeling software • Many machining experts identified and contacted in the US and abroad

  7. Attendance to Machining/Manufacturing Meetings, Industrial Exhibits, Conferences and Workshops • With partial support from CCAT, I have been able to attend, on average, almost one machining/manufacturing related event each month since Summer 2005

  8. Presentations, Posters, Publications and Reports • Four formal presentations of the work have been made • A poster was produced for exhibition at the CIRP meeting in Vancouver • A technical paper was been produced for publication in the COMSOL conference proceedings • A Final Report of Activities was produced for CCAT

  9. Future Plans • Machining Modeling • Milling Maps • Non-conventional Toolpaths • Ti-alloy Orthogonal Cutting Maps • Casting Modeling Software (ProCast) Evaluation/Validation • Metal Forming Software (DEFORM) Evaluation/Validation

  10. Development of Milling Maps

  11. Assessing of Effectiveness of Non-Conventional Tool-Paths produced by Surfware’s True Mill

  12. Development of Machining Maps for Ti alloys • A DoE approach will be used together with AdvantEdge to explore the response of Ti-alloys to a broad spectrum of orthogonal cutting conditions with emphasis on High Speed Machining
