  3. Key questions • What are the conditions for a successful coproduction of local policies (stakeholders to be involved, coordination, etc.)? What are the main obstacles? • How to ensure an active participation of local stakeholders in the ULSG, throughout the life of the project (considering the different types of stakeholders and more especially the private sector and the civil society)? • How to ensure the sustainability of ULSG after the end of the URBACT project? • How to share experiences and good practices with ULSG members from different countries and languages? Local Support Group as a major issue for URBACT • After 2 years of project activities, first lessons from the ULSG experience and to set up appropriate support when needed. • URBACT is currently collecting data on all ULSG (composition, functioning, etc.) to have a better understanding of how this measure is being implemented and what are the results so far. • To launch a specific set of actions dedicated to ULSG, to provide partners with support and organise networking among ULSG members. First results of the ULSG surveys Composition: • Average of 19 members per ULSG • Participation of women : 43 % • Participation of men : 57 % • % of english speaking members : 45 % From which types of organizations: • Local administration: 44 % • NGO: 27 % / citizens 0% • Private company: 11% • MA: 9 % • University: 5% • Regional administration: 3% • National administration: 2% Urbact Local Support Group - Workshop 5 2010, November 30th Page 2

How ULSG are working ? • ULSG didn’t exist prior URBACT (77%) • Composition of the members following the life time of the project • Meeting every two months • Animation done by the ULSG coordinator • MA and elected people are part of it (50%) • Mostly focused on the LAP • Impact on local policies, integrated approach, good practices of policy and decision making • Main difficulties : lack of time spent, motivation from the group, methodology • Additionnal support needed : good practices (55%), enlarging european network (52%) • The ULSG seem to live after the end of the programme (86%) mainly to follow the implementation of the LAP (89%) Urbact Local Support Group - Workshop 5 2010, November 30th Page 3
