Who is Mr. Basta? • Born and raised – Long Island, NY and Fairfield County, CT. • BA – Fairfield University • MAT – Sacred Heart University • Administration Certification - Sacred Heart University • Hindley - CMT Coordinator. • Darien Public Schools – Director of Summer School • Enjoys hiking, traveling, sailing, and spending time with family.

Who is Mr. Grant? • Born and raised – New Hartford, NY • BA – Sacred Heart University 2006 • MAT – Sacred Heart University 2010 • Student Taught at Hindley last year in Mr. Basta’s room • Long Term Subbed at Hindley in 5th grade last year • Married over the summer in Newport, RI • Enjoys spending time outdoors with Bernese Mountain Dog “Bella”

  4. What goals do Mr. Basta and Mr. Grant have this year? To build self-esteem and a sense of personal responsibility and independence. To provide a positive learning experience. To complete the 5th grade curriculum through large group, small group, and individual activities. To provide enrichment and support for all children.

  6. Christian Bailey My goal for 5th grade is to read longer books. I’M EXCITED FOR GRADUATION!

  7. Peter Bredahl My personal goal is to get at least a ninety or above on every test this year. I am excited for our field trip to the museum because my sister really enjoyed it.

  8. Brian Cicero My goal is to learn a lot about American history I’m excited for graduation

  9. Rory Cutts My goal for 5th grade is to learn all my times tables. I’M EXCITED FOR GRADUATION!

  10. Christian Evans My goal this year is to get straight As. I am excited about 5th grade because I want to be a safety.

  11. Jack ferguson My goal for fifth grade is to read 25 books or more. I am exited for science this year because last year science was very simple and this year I hope to have more of a challenge.

  12. Samuel Carlisle Gleason My goal for Fifth grade is get straight A’s. I am excited to do all the fifth day projects and to go into sixth grade!

  13. Peter Gorman This year A personal goal that I would like to achieve is, to score ten or more goals this year In hockey. I’m excited to graduate from elementary school this year because I’ve been here for six years straight and I want to see what middle school is like

  31. District-wide Math Program (Growing with Math) Hands-on approach using manipulatives whenever possible Real-life connections Multiplication facts must be memorized! MATHEMATICS

  32. HOMEWORK • Check The Basta Blog for daily homework: http://cbasta.wordpress.com – Starting in October. • Homework ALERTS will be sent home for repeated missing or incomplete homework • With parental notice, students may need to stay after school to complete missing homework.

  33. What Can You Do to Help? • Encourage discussion at home about your child’s day. • Ask him/her to explain a specific lesson or activity that interested them. • Ask him/her to read their homework directions to you and check for understanding. • Offer assistance, but do not do the work for your child. • If your child struggles with any one assignment for more than 50 min.   34. Together. . . We can help your child to be successful, positive, confident and responsible. It will take the effort at home and at school of parents, teachers, and students to make it happen. I look forward to the challenge.

  35. Please. . . • Find your child’s desk. • Read your child’s note in their writing journal and write a response. • Take the materials on their desk. • Be sure to sign the “CD Handbook” receipt form on the table. • Sign up for a December report card conference and Volunteer Opportunities (sheets located on front table) if desired.
