Compounds and mixtures

Compounds and mixtures

  • In your notebook define element, molecule, mixture, and compound. Think of how they can be different. What do the words mean?

Compound

Compound

  • Element

  • Molecule

  • Compound

  • Mixture

Definitions

Definitions

  • Now go back and redefine them can you make those definitions better.

Definitions

  • Mixture is made up of different substances that are just placed together. Each substance in the mixture has its own properties.

  • Compounds always have the same chemical formula. They always have the same elements in the same ratios.

Reaction of Zn and I2

  • What are 5 compounds that we have observed in this class?

  • What are 5 mixtures that we have been in this class?

  • Observe the reaction of Zn and I2. Write down observations. Were there compounds formed? How do you know?
