  1. JOB 40:6-9 • Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm and said, "Now gird up your loins like a man; • I will ask you, and you instruct Me. "Will you really annul My judgment? • Will you condemn Me that you may be justified? "Or do you have an arm like God, • And can you thunder with a voice like His? (Job 40:6-9 NASB)

  3. "WILL YOU CONDEMN ME THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED?": JOB 40:8

  4. EXCUSES FOR SIN CONDEMN GOD • This is apparent if we consider: • God condemns ALL sin, therefore there is no excuse (i.e. a justifiable reason) for sin. • Accordingly, nothing can be sin for which there is an excuse, or else God is wrong! • Hence, EVERY excuse for sin charges blame upon God!

  5. COMMON EXCUSES FOR SIN • Inability • Perhaps no excuse is more common • Does God not know what men can and can’t do? Exodus 4:10-12 • Charges God of being a tyrant. Exodus 5:6-21 • “My yoke is easy and My burden is light” Mt 11:30, I Jn 5:3 • Easy compared to Law of Moses (Read Leviticus!) • Is being a Christian easy? I Cor 10:13, James 1:12 • Easy compared with yoke of sin. Romans 5:16-19

  6. COMMON EXCUSES FOR SIN • Inability (continued) • Presbyterian Confession of Faith says - • "No man is able, either by himself, or by any grace received in this life, perfectly to keep the commandments of God; but doth daily break them in thought, word, and deed." • This declaration is in direct opposition to God’s word and it condemns God! Titus 2:11-14 • We condemn God every time we use the excuse of inability!

  7. COMMON EXCUSES FOR SIN • Not enough time • Another often made excuse • Again, we charge God with tyranny • We charge God with being unreasonable 2 Pet 3:9,14-15 • “Are you telling me God would allow a person who desired to be saved to die and be lost just because he wasn’t baptized???”

  8. COMMON EXCUSES FOR SIN • Not enough time (cont.) • What about a mother of father who claims they don’t have time to be Christians because they are so busy taking care of and providing for their families? Lk 9:57-62 • What about a person who says they don’t have time to serve God because they must work? Mk 1:16-18

  9. COMMON EXCUSES FOR SIN • 'I was born this way' • If this excuse doesn’t condemn God, nothing does? • We can help it! And, we must! Rom. 8:5-8

  10. COMMON EXCUSES FOR SIN • Its not my fault • Adam excused himself and blamed Eve • Eve excused herself and blamed the serpent • Truth is, both condemned God. Rom 2:5-11

  11. WILL YOU CONDEMN ME THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED? • It is abominable for the sinner to excuse himself and blame God • Excuses add insult to injury • Excuses render repentance impossible • No one lives a single hour in sin without some excuse to justify his or herself • Are you willing to abandon all excuses?
