  2. How did it come about? Ide – a Remarkable community The Village Stores announced closure The Community galvanised Maverick Leader Set up in 3 months! 200th Community Shop in the country Opened 1st April 2009 (P.O. October)

  3. What was involved? Group of activists brought together Village Survey organised Clear plan and vision developed Initial funding sought from village Planning and Portable building Lots of time and effort A ‘can do’ attitude

  4. What was achieved? Temporary Planning Permission Portable Building (30 x 10ft) Sweat Labour – to prepare for opening 40 Volunteers Local Suppliers 48 hrs per week

  6. Successes • Customer base steadily increased • Post Office proving increasingly popular • Over 200 Shareholders • Over 50 regular committed volunteers • Over £100,000 turnover p.a. (x3 years) • Created local employment • Parliamentary Select Committee • Successful Development Plans • Loyalty Card Scheme • Community Fund (£1,500pa) • More than a shop

Development Plans • Planners - Temporary Buildings! • Clear plan and evidence for long term shop • 2 false starts in 2 years • We were running out of ideas! • Average property in Ide £280K • Option Appraisal • Ideal premises emerged • Amazing support to ‘go for it’ • Community Share Scheme • Discussions (Parish/Planners) Ide’s own Rialto Bridge!
