A stranger should never ask you for help, but it more than normal for you to ask them. • Safe Strangers- Safe strangers are people who you can ask for help. I.E. (Police Officer, Fire Fighter, School Nurse). These safe strangers are easily recognized, and foster an image of security.

  3. Understandings of a Trusted Adult • Mutual Respect- Both individuals need to trust and respect one another. The child should see the adult as someone who they truly trust and confide in. Be a role model for the youth. • Consistency- Trusted adults need to be ready to set time aside often to deal with certain problems that kids maybe facing. • Honesty- Honesty plays an intricate part I any relationship. All too often parents may feel that they need to tell their child everything will be ok when that is not always the case. It is ok to tell them that, “This may not work out.” • Strategic Criticisms- When practicing, the adult needs to remain focused on the drill. Sometimes things can get derailed by emotions as the child relives a stressful situation. The trusted adult acknowledges the feelings, but keeps focusing on refining and perfecting the child’s response to the situation.

  4. Trusted Adults • Parents • Police • Firefighters • Teachers • Counselors • Neighbors(trusted) • Nurses • Doctors

  5. Essential Skills • Decision Making- It is a child’s choice if they choose to trust an adult or not. It is our responsibility to make sure they trust ones who will keep their best interest at heart and not abuse the privilege. A child’s mind is to be molded, not manipulated. • Interpersonal Communication- It is essential that a child is able to communicate what is going on their life with you. It is one’s responsibility as a trusted adult to always keep that communication line open.
