COURSE DESCRIPTION • This course provides a comprehensive survey of American History beginning with Reconstruction and concluding with the current role the US plays in world affairs. - Special emphasis is placed upon the political, social and economic factors affecting our national development.

  3. INSTRUCTIONAL EMPHASIS • Critical Thinking • Critical Reading • CriticalWriting (analytical, persuasive essay & research based). • Sources: • Primary Source Readings/Historical Documents/Political Cartoons/Photographs • Voices of Freedom-Volume II-Eric Foner. • Textbook-A History of the United States-Boorstin & Kelley.

  4. EVALUATION CRITERIA • 60% Assessments for Learning -standard style tests, quizzes, argument essays, research papers, poster projects, group presentations, political cartoons, map projects, etc.. -- Rubrics are used for all projects and papers. 40 % Participation, Preparation & Homework • Class Participation-Evaluated by teacher & student. • Homework-10-20 points per assignment. • (Friday/Holiday policy).

  5. EVALUATION CRITERIA • Additional assistance is available ANY DAY before or after school.

  6. COURSE REQUIREMENTS • An overall average of 60 or better. • Summer Reading-Reconstruction DBQ analysis. • Four Research Projects: Assignments will vary….. • Historical non-fiction reading & analysis • Research Paper and/or Project • Group Research Presentation and/or DBQ paper • The Mid-Term exam (1/10th) of overall grade. • The Final exam (1/10th) of overall grade.

  7. PROGRESS • Progress reports will be sent midway through each marking period. • Special requests for progress reports may be made through the guidance office.
