  1. Psalms 131 LORD, my heart is not haughty, Nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I concern myself with great matters, Nor with things too profound for me. Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, Like a weaned child with his mother; Like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, hope in the LORD From this time forth and forever.

  7. His Life Was a Model of Humility • He spent 17 1/2 years waiting for God. • Ten of those years he spent running from Saul. • 7 1/2 years more he ruled in Hebron. • Absalom turned on him and led a coup d'etat.

David’s Example David Moves The Ark • He danced before the LORD with all his might. • David was wearing a linen ephod • Ark came with shouting & trumpet sounding. • Michal saw King David leaping and whirling. • David offered burnt offerings. • David blessed the people. • David returned to bless his household.

  10. David’s Example David Moves The Ark Michal said: “How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”

  11. David’s Example David Replies: • God chose me to be King instead of your father! • I will play music before the LORD. • "I will be even more undignified, and will be humble in my own sight." • I will be held in honor by the maidservants.

  12. David’s Example He Responded As One Who... • Is very secure in his own identity. • Didn't care what people thought about him. • Was comfortable with his own commonness. • Understood his service was before God.

  14. Arrogance & Ambition Same Root Word for Arrogance, or Pride. Proverbs 16:5 “Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD…”

  15. Arrogance & Ambition • Arrogance Is About Power. • Pride doesn't allow intimacy. • Can't enter into a relationship with equals. • Pride Demands control. • Ambition attempts to do what God hasn’t prepared for us, things... "too great and too marvelous" for us.

Jesus teachings focused the truth of these verses Matthew 18:2-4 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. "Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
