  1. GARBAGE BIN MECHANISMMECHANISMS DESIGN PROJECTINTER AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF PUERTO RICOSCHOOL OF ENGINEERINGBAYAMON CAMPUSMechanical Engineering Department Team Members: Victor Candelaria, Franco Marcano, Victor Roman, Luis Arias Faculty Advisors: Dr. Omar Meza Castillo RESULTS AND DOCUMENTATION INTRODUCTION This way of thinking conduce us to create a mechanism to be used in almost every place or location where garbage is. The mechanism consists of a five bar link mechanism. It also has a symmetric geometry that makes the input work acting on it to be a low power consuming by human activity. The primary task of this mechanism is to make easier to lift garbage bin. Almost every home in the world have a garbage bin installed in front of their property. An important difficulty is when a person goes to lift the garbage from the bin to introduce it into the truck to then return it to the bin. By making a project design is in our concern to make these steps of lifting the garbage, a less work input and more efficient task or duty. An aid by this mechanism will reduce back pain in many people. Also reduces energy loss in human body. By consequence is a concept to be introduced by new homes in the future. Also you can modify your bin to the mechanism can be installed and enjoy to never hurt your back again. As we can tell from the whole analysis process, the design went as expected. At the end, the values that were verified were correct and the ones that could not be verified at least made sense. We ran into a few obstacles in the design phase. The original dimensions called for a shorter table, but we realized that the shorter the table was, the closer together the tip of the legs would be, and the smaller the angle between the actuator would be. This would make the operation of the table much more difficult. Changing the height of the table was not an option, so we had to lengthen the table. Secondary small legs, casters on the leg tips, rollers on the sides of the table and a change in dimensions were all part of the design process and new additions to the original proposal Different power sources can be utilized to raise and lower the system. The options could vary from a rope and pulley system, hand operated levers or gear systems, electric motors, etc. Acceleration Analysis Position Analysis Velocity Analysis Position Equations Velocity Equations Acceleration Equations DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS Our team decided to work on a better way to move the trash cans in and out of the residential underground trash bins. We had a couple of ideas in mind. One of them consisted of a system of gears, racks and a holder for the trash can. This model utilized mechanical advantage from the gears to raise and lower an individual trash can. The other model, which was the one that was picked, consisted of a five-bar, symmetric mechanism with simple links. When a vertical force is applied to the center joint, the mechanism raises or lowers a table that lifts both trash cans out of their respective bins at the same time. ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS Different methods can be utilized for the needed application of force; from electric motors, to a hand-operated gear system or a simple lever with a given length that can create mechanical advantage. CONCLUSION REFERENCES A real design is open to new applications. Is a fact that the design is specifically done to improve homes technology. It brings a new concept of how to dispose garbage in almost every home in the world. By installing this system to garbage bins, people do not have to worry if the recipient is full of heavy stuff so it can be lifted without any problem or difficulty. Like in every change of lifestyle we bring a new shape of technology to our homes. By consequence the real design will improve the quality of life of the people living in a house with this system. Also it can be used and enjoyed by all ages. • [1] Artobolesky, I. I. (1975). Mechanisms in Modern Engineering Desing. Moscow: MIR Publisher. • [2] Grawal, N. (2009, July 28). Bright Hub.
