  2. European Union When, Where, What • When was the European Union formed? About fifty years ago in 1958. • Where was the European Union? Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands. • What was the purpose of the European Union? To regulate European industry & improve commerce, post World War II.

  3. Key Places and Events For the European Union • 1967: ECSC, EEC, and Euro Atom merged to form the basis of the EC. • 1973: The United Kingdom, Denmark, and Ireland joined EC. • 1981: Greece joined. • 1986: Spain and Portugal joined. • 1995: Finland, Sweden, and Austria joined.

  4. Who European Union was Involved with • Who was the European Union Involved with? They were involved with the ECSC, EEC, and the Euro Atom. • What are the uses of these organizations in the world today? To continue to improve Europe’s economy by regulating trade and commerce. To form a single market for Europe’s economic resources. As these goals were accomplished, other goals were developed. Environmental movements. Regulatory acts. Human rights concerns.
