  3. Tonight’s Purpose • To provide information related to course selection for next year. • Why so early? • Course selection determines # of sections of each course. • # sections determine # of staff needed. • Our goal…to have the BEST TEACHERS!

  5. High School Philosophy • L-MHS is a comprehensive high school. • Students are encouraged to take a wide variety of course work, get involved in athletics, fine arts, and clubs/organizations. • The high school task is to provide a well-rounded set of tools for each student…not to produce “specialists”. • The changing workplace, the changing economy, the need for lifelong learning require this approach.

  6. High School Opportunities • Our daily schedule will provide nearly unlimited opportunities for: • course acceleration • college credit or Advanced Placement (AP) credit • internships or other community-based experiences • wide array of co-curricular experiences

  10. Graduation Requirements • 250 credits • 40 English (E9 or EI, EII, EIII, Speech or Acting) • 30 Social Studies (US, World, Govt) • 30 Math • 30 Science (Biology, physical) • 20 PE plus Health

  11. Minimum course Load • 70 credits (82.5 possible) for students in grades 9,10,11 • 60 credits for seniors • Internships • PSEO (Post-Secondary Enrollment Act) • Volunteering

Registration Process • Step one: The high school counselors will be going to the middle schools to hand out and to go over the registration materials. • If you do not currently attend a LM middle school, please contact Greg Hall or Laura Gallo for registration information • Step two: The students will take the material home and work with their parents on selecting courses that they want to take for the following school year. • Step three: Fill out the course request sheet. • Step four: The students will register on-line using their Powerschool page (from home or at school if they do not have internet access) and the “window” is open from Jan. 25th at 7:00 PM and it ends on Feb. 5th at 3:00 PM. • Step five: Turn in the signed (Parent & Student) course request sheet to middle school guidance office.
