Birmingham Segregation Laws 1963 • Section 359 – Any public facility must have separate Negro seating and separate Negro entrance and exit points. • Section 369 - Whites and Negroes cannot eat in the same restaurant, unless separated by a wall at least 7ft (2.1m) high, and separate entrances provided for each compartment. • Section 597 – Whites and Negroes may not play checkers, cards, dice or dominoes together, and the owner of a public establishment who allows this will be punished. • Section 1002 – Buses must have clearly defined seating areas for whites and negroes to prevent intermingling, and taxi’s must be separate as either white or negro taxi’s.
