  1. Is A Person Showing A Real Smile Or A Fake Smile? By: Jenna Bloomfield

  2. Hypothesis If we test a fake smile vs. a real smile then the real smile will contract more muscles.

  3. Procedures 1. Get 2 people of the same age range (11-13) 2. Tell each person a funny joke 3. Record their smile 4. Tell each person a non-funny joke 5. Record their smile 6. Compare your data

  4. Materials 2 11-13 year olds Funny joke Non-funny joke Chart to record it on

  5. Variables Independent: The type of joke Dependent: If their smile is fake or not by measuring facial muscles Constant: Age range Funny joke Non funny-joke To tell joke at the same time

  6. Graph When Kimmy was told the funny joke she had a big, wide smile that showed her teeth and when Taylor was told the funny joke she had a nice smile that showed her teeth. When I told Kimmy and Taylor the non-funny joke, they both had a sheepish grin, but Kimmy’s grin didn’t show her teeth and Taylor’s grin did show her teeth.

  7. Conclusion 1. The question was “Is a person showing a real smile or a fake smile?” 2. I got two people, then told them jokes, and finally recorded their smiles. 3. The real smile contracts more muscles. 4. My data supports my hypothesis because a real smile contracts more muscles that a fake smile. 5. I learned how to tell a real smile from a fake smile. 6. No errors occurred and I had no problems. I wouldn't do anything differently.
