  2. Biography Picasso was born in October 25, 1881 in the town of Malaga, Spain. His father was a professor of drawing. It was at an early age that Picasso's father noticed his ability at drawing and encouraged it. At age ten he joined the local art academy in Barcelona.

  3. Picasso’s early years • 1897 Picasso headed for Madrid. • While there he entered the Royal Academy of San Fernando. Being he did not care for the teaching there he spent most of his time wandering the streets looking for inspiration for his art. He became greatly influenced by the museum of paintings, where he discovered the Spanish artisans of old.

  5. 1901 The Blue Period • After the death of Picasso’s friend Carles Casagemas; Picasso became stricken with grief and guilt which was apparent in his art. He entered what became to be known as the Blue Period.

  7. Rose Period 1905-06 It was in the spring of 1904 when Picasso made the permanent move to Paris. In late 1904 Picasso became involved with Fernande Olivier. This relationship brought Picasso out of his depressed shell. Picasso entered what is now known as his Rose Period.

  9. Beginning of Cubism1906-09 In 1906 Picasso and his colleague Georges Braque working together started a new way of painting a flat space along with provocative geometric shapes at the same time. This new form of painting was to be called Cubism.

  11. Analytical Cubism 1910-12 By 1910 Picasso and Braque had completely revamped their cubism painting. They took objects and broke them down into pieces to give it different perspectives. This technique was deemed analytical cubism.

  13. Synthetic Cubism 1912-17 When Picasso and Braque glued a piece of oilcloth onto a canvas and painted around it they came up with synthetic cubism. According to both artist, this is the natural progression of cubism itself.

  15. Between Wars 1921-38 It was just before World War One when Picasso an Braque stopped working together. After the war Picasso used the emotional unrest from the atrocities of the war to slip back towards the classical form of art and at the same time pushing the boundaries of cubism.

  17. Picasso’s Legend 1937-57 By the end of the 1930’s Pablo Picasso was one of the most famous artists in the world. His art was greatly influenced by the women in his life. Picasso was even asked to capture the brutality of the Spanish Civil war in a painting he named “Guernica”.

  19. Picasso’s later works1965-72 It was at this point of Picasso's tremendous career, in which he was at an all time high, as far as production goes. Picasso was able to produce the most paintings in the last 8 years of his life than at any other time during his career as an artist.
