  • Became deaf in 1792 – his style changed and became more satirical

  • Characteristics of his works:

  • 1) painted scenes of everyday life

  • 2) only roughly indicated the background

  • 3) loved to use the color black

  • Architect

  • From Barcelona, Spain (most of his works are built there)

  • His style is difficult to classify because he was so modern for his time

  • Designed parks, apartment buildings, etc.

  • Died when hit by a trolley

  • Rose Period- characterized by shades of pink and red (fun times/ many circus performers were his topic)

  • Most famous style- cubism- characterized by many geometric shapes (very abstract and modern)

  • Influenced by the Spanish Civil War (1930’s)
