  3. General Surveillance • Does not involve field surveys • A term used to describe the compilation of all existing information about the distribution of pests (see ISPM 6). • Species-based records • Publications, journals, reports

  4. Detection Surveys • A survey conducted in an area to determine if pests are present (ISPM 5) • Involve looking for pests if not known to be present in the area • Carried out for • Developing pest lists/host lists • Establishing PFA’s, PFPP, PFPS • Early detection of pests on areas vulnerable to new pest invasions • Examine for quarantine breaches

  5. Monitoring Surveys • ….on going survey to verify the characteristics of a pest population. (ISPMs) • Carried out to • Assist with pest management • To establish and monitor an Area of Low Pest Prevalence (ALPP)
