  5. Step 1: Circle the FIVE academic classes you are required to take. ACADEMIC COURSES Classroom teachers must CIRCLE the appropriate academic course and Honors teachers must provide a SIGNATURE on the adjacent line, to indicate approval. Students will not be registered for Honors courses without the appropriate teacher signature.   6. All 7th gr. students will take the Reading Placement Test in April. Since we do not yet know for which class you are eligible (EN 8 or LA 8), you are instructed to circle “EN8/LA8”. Once scores are received in May, you will be placed in the appropriate level class by the registrar. Your Hr LA teacher must sign next to BOTH lines.

  9. If you are NOT currently in Honors but would like to be considered for Honors in 8th Grade: 1. Circle REGULAR classes on your course card. 2. Sign up to take the Honors test in May. * Permission slips are available in the Attendance Office * Honors testing is scheduled for Thursday, May 9thin the Library 3. If after taking the test, you are eligible to take an Honors class, the counselor will make the appropriate changes on your registration card.

  14. Semester Electives Remember, it takes two semester electives to equal one full year.   15. How do I get two periods of electives? • All 7th grade students will take the READING PLACEMENT TEST in April. • Qualifying students will be placed in ENGLISH 8. English 8 students will be eligible for TWO electives (You will be notified if you are in English 8, Honors EN 8 or Language Arts 8 the last week of school) Do NOT miss the READING PLACEMENT TEST in APRIL. Students who do not take the test will automatically be placed in Language Arts 8.

  17. Please select your electives carefully and wisely. THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT WILL NOT DO A SCHEDULE CHANGE BECAUSE: ~ You “changed your mind” ~ You “thought the class would be different” ~ You “didn’t get the same class / teacher as your friend” WARNING!!!!

  18. Important Info! • All students must complete a course card and have it returned to their Social Studies teacher by February 24th. • You must turn in a completed card even if you do not plan on attending South Valley for 8th grade. • All students not having cards turned into their teachers byFebruary 24thwill have electives randomly selected for them!
